From The Rabbi![]() We are all very concerned about the news from Israel. We hope that the fighting will soon end, with peace for all sides. We have to be optimistic and pray that Hashem will watch over us. We are not alone. We are supported by many in the international community. We have to show, once again, that the days when Jews may be attacked and are unable to defend themselves, are over. The Chief Rabbi of the United Kingdom, Sir Jonathan Sacks, spoke movingly about Israelis situation. For the past 58 years, in a country the size of New Jersey, absorbing people from many different countries, speaking 80 languages in a desolate land, a land with no natural resources, Israel has flourished. It has generated medical technology to save life, it is among the first to offer aid to humanitarian disasters, it has taken the language of the Bible and made it speak again. It has rescued people from the valley of the shadow of death and made them live again, all within six decades. At this time of year, as we approach the High Holy Days, it behooves us to look both within ourselves and resolve to improve in all areas of our lives, and also to help Israel with prayers and finances. When we gather together Rosh Hashana, hopefully the news will be better.
