A noted Israeli tour guide, journalist and lecturer will hold a public multimedia presentation on the Arab-Israeli conflict at Congregation Ohev Sholom on Sunday.

Shalom Pollack of Jerusalem is scheduled to begin his presentation at 1:30 p.m. at the synagogue at 1501 Cherry St.

His topic: The Arab assault on Israel - It's NOT about land!

Pollack has worked as a journalist, both in radio and print, and has experience working in public relations for the World Zionist Organization.

Pollack has been keynote speaker for United Jewish Appeal, which represents 157 Jewish federations and 400 independent Jewish communities across the U.S.

He also spoke for Hadassah, which is the Women's Zionist Organization of America, and B'nai B'rith and Israel Bonds events.

Pollack is a Brookyn College of C.U.N.Y. graduate with a master's degree in political science. His thesis was on Soviet and Egyption relations.

He has served in the Israeli Navy reserve for more than 14 years.

His military service, from 1984 to 1998, included working in an Israeli Navy reserve terrorist penetration prevention unit.

He also was a liaison between the Israeli Army and Diaspora volunteers. The Diaspora refers to the expulsion and dispersion of Jewish people throughout the world, millions of whom have returned to live in Israel.

Pollack volunteers his time working with the elderly in senior homes and coaches teen basketball.

In addition, he is a guide for immigrant students.

Congregation Ohev Sholom Rabbi Shaul Rappeport said he found out Pollack would be speaking in State College and "jumped at the chance" to have him visit Williamsport.
